Course Syllabus
TITLE OF COURSE: PE1491 - Ballroom Dance
COURSE DESCRIPTION: One credit hour with 2 contact hours per week. This class includes basic steps in current ballroom dances and knowledge of ballroom etiquette. For each unit of credit, a minimum of three hours per week with one of the hours for class and two hours for studying/preparation outside of class is expected.

SCCC/ATS OUTCOMES: Students who successfully complete this course will demonstrate the ability to do the following outcomes:
Outcome #1 - Read with comprehension, be critical of what they read, and apply knowledge gained from their reading to broader issues of the day.
Outcome #6 - Value the diverse cultures, creeds, and life styles of America and the world community.
GENERAL COURSE OUTCOMES:
To be able to do the basic steps, variations and combinations of steps for the different types of dances: Fox Trot, Waltz, Rumba, Cha-Cha, East Coast Swing
For the men to demonstrate the ability to lead and for the women to demonstrate the ability to follow while executing basic types of dances.
To be able to use proper dance positions and styles.
To have an understanding of the different types of rhythms by following the beat in movement.
To have an understanding of proper dance etiquette to be used on the dance floor.
To have an interest in ballroom dance as a wholesome recreation activity.

METHODS OF ASSESSMENT: Methods of assessing the general course outcomes and the specific course competencies include a written test and skill performance.
SCCC/ATS Outcome #1 will be assessed and measured by recall and performance of all dance steps
SCCC/ATS Outcome #6 will be assessed and measured by performance of dance steps from three different cultures.
